2014 Campaign Kick-Off

The UW of ESVA kicked off its 2014 Campaign

With the theme ”Celebrate a Better Tomorrow,” the United Way of Virginia’s Eastern Shore kicked off its 2014 campaign Tuesday at the Eastern Shore Yacht and Country Club, announcing a goal of $300,000.

Co-chairmen Nancy Stern and Jeannette Edwards welcomed more than 100 people, including keynote speaker Brian Moran, Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security for Virginia, as Lionel Richie’s song, “Celebration,” blared through the room and campaign committee members waved placards showing many of the organizations supported by United Way.

Moran, Secretary of Public Safety, to Speak at United Way Kickoff

Brian Moran, Secretary of Public Safety of the Commonwealth of Virginia, will be the keynote speaker for the United Way of Eastern Shore of Virginia’s kickoff luncheon on Tuesday, Sept. 16, held at the Eastern Shore Yacht and Country Club at 11:30 a.m.

Moran visited the Eastern Shore shortly after a tornado hit Northampton County in July and witnessed firsthand the response and ongoing support to the victims of the tornado. He praised the responders and the local community for its fast and thorough reaction to the tragedy.

Nancy Stern and Jeannette Edwards have been named chairman of the 2014 United Way of Virginia’s Eastern Shore fundraising campaign.

The United Way of Virginia’s Eastern Shore is a local volunteer organization established in 1991 by business people and community leaders who recognized the need to have a local organization that would be dedicated to helping the people of Virginia’s Eastern Shore by organizing and helping to raise financial support from local businesses and individuals for a variety of local charities.

Thank you Breakfast

The United Way of Virginia’s Eastern Shore held its annual Thank You Breakfast for the 2013 Campaign Coordinator at the Eastern Shore Yacht and County Club on May 7, 2014.  Without the dedication of these individuals, the campaigns of the United Way would not be as successful. Lucero Diaz, the Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year, was the speaker. The breakfast was sponsored by Tyson Foods.  Wendy’s Restaurant gave Gift Cards to all Coordinators. Plaques were presented to Perdue Farms and Tyson Foods for their outstanding support of the United Way Awards were given to businesses who reach certain goals. The United Way of Virginia’s Eastern Shore announces Dawn Byrd of Onancock has been named Executive Director of the local chapter, succeeding Flo Bowers, who is retiring after 21 years in the position.

Dawn has long been involved in both the retail and non-profit sectors of the Eastern Shore, previously serving as Office Manager for Great Space, a design firm in Onancock, and Collections Manager for the Eastern Shore of Virginia Historical Society. She also served as Manager at The Book Bin for 23 years.
